This evening a music theme popped into my head, and I realized it was from this past Sunday's episode of Mad Men, "The Fog." I knew when I heard the music I recognized it, so I assumed it was some famous classical-something-or-other I'd heard in school or on NPR. A little research, however, revealed that in fact it's called "Me voy a morir de amor" from the score of the movie Lucía y el Sexo. If I recall correctly, I think I saw this movie three times in a one month period (which is not as pervy as it sounds)--I watched it a second time to try to understand it better and a third to show it to Brian. (I gave a brief review after the first time I saw it--you can read here.) I found this video someone made featuring the music, and it reminded me how beautiful the movie was... I suspect I'll be seeing it a 4th time soon. Hey-o!
After posting a link to my YouTube account where most of my Fritz videos go, I realized it's been awhile since I actually posted one. Fritz got a kitty tube and tent this week and he's loved diving into them--I realized it was time for me to learn how to use iMovie so I could present the highlights of his play time. Maybe now that I know how to edit video I'll post more of him!
Things I Loathe:
- Waking up with a headache! Seriously, how does that happen unless you go to bed with one? This one was conjured out of nowhere.
- Spending an hour and fifteen minutes at the doctor's office for literally about 3 minutes of face time with the doctor.
- Obsessive tendencies.
- The outrageous expense of name-brand cereals. And the fact that a knock-off for MultiGrain Cheerios, possibly the tastiest Cheerios ever (after, of course, Team Cheerios. which were THE BEST. And come to think of it, I think MultiGrain Cheerios is the same thing only without Frosted Cheerios.)
- How long I am capable of prattling on about Cheerios. And how I become so distracted when talking about cheerios, that I forgot to finish my initial thought about Cheerios--which was that a knock-off for MultiGrain Cheerios doesn't exist.
Things I Love:
- Brian is consistently nice to me. And brings me medicine. And makes me food. <3
- Mario Kart Wii! I keep taking a few weeks off this game and when I return to it, I become obsessed.
- Reading. And more specifically: the freedom to read whatever the hell I want. I don't know if it's "chick lit" and I don't particularly care, but I bought The Time-Traveler's Wife and started it today.
- STORMS! I have been longing for some rainy days and it seems they're upon us here in Alabama. Mmmm, thunder. I should probably not be on the computer.
- College, apparently. 3 weeks from today I'll be starting classes again--not as a full time student, though. I'm embarking on a semester of experimentally pursuing a second bachelor's in Psychology. I'm too lazy to go into the details of why I'm doing this here, but I'm sure a future post is forthcoming.
- This video, which I have watched/listened to over and over again today:
While trying to remember what "NOM" stood for (they've sullied the good name of nom--what it REALLY means), I came across a number of parody videos of the "Gathering Storm" ad. I've only watched these two so far, but they're pretty hilarious.
You may or may not be aware of the phenomenon known as Spaghetti Cat. I believe this all originated when The Soup went crazy over this brief clip of a stuffed cat in front of a plate of spaghetti. The image was used on some morning show (The Morning Show with Mike and Juliet, so Wikipedia tells me) to censor dialogue, and now The Soup likes to throw it everywhere. Today I discovered this video/song, and I just can't get enough of it:
I subscribe to richfofo on YouTube primarily for videos of Winston, the exotic shorthair loved the whole Internet world over. Rich, who writes for VH1's blog in addition to maintaining his own, is a pretty all-around hilarious guy. Today I was delighted to find this nugget of goodness in my YouTube subscriptions; who could've guessed that Tyra Banks would prove such a useful debate coach?
One of my close friends had to create a 2-5 minute video for his digital video editing class, and I got to participate! If you've got 5 minutes to spare for some silliness, you should check it out. I think he did an amazing job with the editing, and the story is quite clever.
So I've checked out a few videos by these guys Hank and Jed, and I've enjoyed all the ones I've seen so far. But this one is undoubtedly my favorite, and I'm not sure why it cracks me up so thoroughly. I just think the story is hilarious... if you've got a little over 8 minutes and nothing better to do, check it out:
I always enjoy telling myself that I'm starting a new "segment" on my blog, so let's go ahead and say this can be a new segment--knowing I will probably never make another post like this again.
Final Fantasy VIII--FFVIII, for us cool kids--came out shortly after I'd gotten my Playstation and fallen in love with Final Fantasy VII. FF7 I loved, but 8... 8 was something else for me. It remains probably my favorite game of all time (perhaps even trumping the classic NES, Sega, and SNES games I love so much!), and although my gaming days are mostly over, I still can't think of FF8 without getting all squishy inside. (For you other gamers, I know, I know--FF7 is apparently infinitely better, but I can't help it. Nothing ever moved me the way 8 did.) My most memorable moment of the game is the scene I'm about to post. Now YouTube has made it convenient for me to watch whenever I want; back in the Day, however, I reserved a precious memory card spot for this video alone so I could watch it whenever I wanted. (And I'll never forget the nice/nerdily cute guy who worked at Electronics Boutique who confessed he had done the same thing.) Aside from the fact that this was just gorgeous animation (especially at the time; I think it still is), I love love loved the music, and the music of Nobuo Uematsu continues to remain that nagging inspiration in me: "Don't score films; score games!" Mmmph.
