Aside from the ever-faithful and lovable mutt (I mean really--why pay hundreds to thousands of dollars for a designer breed guaranteed to get a home if there are tons of free or almost free mutts out there that desperately need good homes... /endvisityourlocalanimalshelterrant), I love love love Afghan Hounds:
My family had one when I was growing up. She was fabulous and named D'fer---D'fer Dog. (Get it?) They're silly, beautiful, and like most so many silly beautiful creatures--completely stupid. I'm pretty sure they're ranked as the stupidest dog breed. I like to think of D'fer more as an airheaded blonde. I'm not sure if this is true of the breed or just of our individual doggie, but man--that girl could fart strategically. Try to brush her when she's not in the mood, and you better hope you're wearing a gas mask.
