My friend Ashton and I were practicing for our upcoming coffee-shop performance when she mentioned a song she had heard on The Wonder Years called "In My Life." I decided to check my iPod, as it's full of random older songs I don't know about (I tend to borrow my mom's CD collection a lot). While I didn't have the version she was talking about (a cover of the song by Judy Collins), I did actually have the original Beatles version, and there are few things I love more than falling in love with a Beatles song I hadn't heard before. This one was love at first hear.

There are places I'll remember

If you get a chance I would recommend checking out Johnny Cash's version of this song off his American IV album. This is the one he did right before he died, he covered a bunch of his favorite songs and this was one. His voice is failing but there is something about that and knowing that he was not far from dying that just make this a haunting album. Not my favorite Johnny Cash album but I love it!!

It's great to find something in an unexpected place, isn't it? What a great song -- I may have to take sdede2's suggestion and get the Johnny Cash album -- I don't have that one. Although I already DID break the "you can't buy anything before Christmas" rule that I have with my girlfriend -- I got "Rockin the Suburbs" and "Speed Graphic" the other night off of iTunes! :)

Ha, I'm so proud! Ben Folds is worth breaking rules for. =D And those are two excellent choices; Speed Graphic is probably my favorite EP just because it has both "Give Judy My Notice" and "Wandering."

So what type of music are you going to play at the coffeehouse? Will there be video recording and subsequent posting?? :)

Well, as to what kind of music we'll be playing... we stick to a lot of mellow pop rock kind of stuff. We've got some very special songs we do, including arrangements of "No Scrubs" by TLC and the theme song from the original America's Funniest Home Videos ("Stories from your friends next door they never told..."). I'm going to post a playlist as soon as we get our definite one set. As far as video recording goes... ha. We've recorded ourselves a few times in the past, but I am way too computer illiterate to know how to put that stuff on my computer!
