[this is good]
Same here -- I loved The Kite Runner but I liked A Thousand Splendid Suns more. And since I think it is quite obvious that I like Twilight (and by like, I mean I'm obsessed), I'll refrain from telling you that you must read it immediately. :)

I really liked The Golden Compass -- not the movie, though -- but I haven't gotten around to reading the other two in the trilogy.

I haven't read the other stuff, so review it when you're done.
Oooh I'm reading Twilight right now! I have maybe 100 pages left to go, hopefully I'll finish it soon. It's good!

I'm one of few people who don't particularly care for the His Dark Materials series. The Golden Compass was good, the other two kind of fizzled though. They were entertaining and well-written and are pretty easy reads, but they just...lacked something for me and it was hard for me to get pulled into that world and really care about it. *shrug* Hopefully you'll enjoy it more.
Yeah, I've thought about jumping on the Twilight bandwagon myself, except I don't want to buy it in case I don't like it and all libraries have a waiting list on it. If you have it, can I borrow it?
So I second Katie's comments above. Since you are starting the Golden Compass get ready for some evangelical Christian telling you you're going to hell. (man I'm cynical) I will say I haven't been too impressed with the trilogy. I'm on the last book of the trilogy and it's a lot of detail. I asked one of my friends in Britain about it and he says the books are not really that big among our age group. He doesn't like the author and says that most of his stuff is "rubbish." Not to discourage you. That's just my opinion. I started to read them to prove those "Christians" that a book is a book regardless of the author's views on life and spiritual matters. I did enjoy the Golden Compass the most though. The bear (Iorek) is amazing. I wanted to be like him. Man I just rambled...I want to hear more about the Musicophilia book. Where did you get it? I'll try and write a review on the trilogy when I get finished with the last one. Enjoy your reading though.
You were the main person that got me interested in both The Kite Runner and Twilight! Really, I just go through the books you're reading and start reading them for myself, haha. I think A Thousand Splendid Suns was generally stronger than the already impressive Kite Runner, and so I'm really looking forward to more books from Hosseini.

I was also not especially impressed with the movie version of The Golden Compass... I was really only planning on reading the book since I've already got it. Since so many people seem to not be impressed with the series as a whole, I might put it on the backburner for a bit.
Glad to hear I'm not the only person to be behind on the Twilight series! I'm looking forward to it more and more, especially with the movie coming up...
I've ordered it on Amazon, should be in in a couple days. I'll let you know as soon as I finish it!
Nick, I love your ranting comments. And yeah, I already saw all the bitching people did about subversive material, blar blar blar... Like I said to Jen, I'm going to put the series on the backburner for a bit, but when I do I'll just read 'em for what they are. If they're good books, then awesome; if they suck majorly, then I'll be pissed I wasted my time. But I couldn't care less about all the stuff people are bitching about regarding the series.

Did you see the movie? I didn't really dig it, but I was pretty appalled by the music, which to me was just "EPIC EPIC EPIC BIG BIG BIG" all the time. It was annoying. Thought you'd appreciate my pissiness regarding that.
I did see it and the order of events was backwards in the movie...you'll find that out in the book though. I'm actually working on a paper/review of the series for a friend of mine. So hopefully I'll be able to post main points on here. Glad to know you're reading so much. (too much if you ask me)
